Briar Chemicals Raises Over £430 for Macmillan Cancer Support

Employees at Briar Chemicals came together last week to support Macmillan Cancer Support, raising an impressive £431.12 through a successful Coffee Morning and Bake Off competition.

The event saw colleagues generously donating a wide range of sweet and savoury treats, with staff enjoying everything from homemade cakes and biscuits to sausage rolls and pastries. Thanks to the enthusiasm and generosity of everyone involved, the event raised a fantastic £431.12 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The money raised will help Macmillan continue its vital work supporting people living with cancer and their families, providing essential advice, practical support and care when it is needed most.

2026 Briar Bake off Winners Announced

A highlight of the day was the highly anticipated Briar Bake Off, where a panel of judges faced the difficult task of selecting winners from an outstanding array of entries.

After much deliberation, the winners were announced as:

🥇 First Place: Phil Smith for his delicious homemade Cinnamon Buns

🥈 Second Place: Ian Murray (Mrs. Murry) for her indulgent Chocolate Brownies

Congratulations to both winners and to everyone who entered. The high standard of baking made the judging process extremely challenging.

More than Just Baking

For many participants, the event was about much more than cakes and fundraising. Phil Smith, this year’s Bake Off champion, shared the personal motivation behind his support for Macmillan.

Having experienced the impact of cancer within his own family and seen a close friend undergo treatment in recent years, Phil wanted to contribute in a practical way. Through baking for both the Briar Chemicals Macmillan event and a separate fundraising event at his daughter’s school, Phil demonstrated the community spirit and generosity that helped make this year’s appeal such a success.

Reflecting on the event, Phil highlighted how even small actions can make a meaningful difference when people come together for an important cause.
